IMD Issues Cold Wave Alert in Hyderabad and Telangana

IMD Issues Cold Wave Alert and Yellow Warning for Telangana. India Meteorological Department has sounded an alert for Hyderabad and many districts  due to a severe cold wave that gripped the region. This chilling effect has been observed at both the urban and rural levels because of the significant drop in minimum temperatures.

Reasons for the Cold Wave

  • Northwest winds carrying cold air from northern parts of India.
  • Clear sky resulting in losing heat very quickly overnight.
  • Dry air makes the cold unbearable.

Impact on daily life.

  • Dense fog has been observed in early mornings, reducing visibility and disrupting traffic.
  • Health risks have increased, especially among the elderly and children.
  • Schools and offices are witnessing late activity as people prepare for the cold.

IMD Recommendations

The IMD says that the people:

  • Dress warmly to ward off chills.
  • Use heaters carefully and prevent an outbreak of fire.
  • The farmers need to prepare precaution preparation for crops and animals.

Additional Concerns for Farmers and Rural Areas

Across Telangana, farmers are battling the effects of frost on their crops, especially vegetables and pulses. Experts say that covering seedlings at night and giving them light irrigation are two ways to keep crops safe. The best way to keep animals safe from the chill is by giving them shelters with insulated roofs and soft bedding to stay warm.

How Cities’ Economies and Ways of Life Are Affected

In Hyderabad, the frosty mornings have slowed the city’s rhythm, touching everything from everyday routines to the flow of the local economy. Street vendors, auto drivers and gig workers who depend on early earnings are having a hard time because of the changes to public transport and outdoor activities. On the other hand, small stores that sell sweaters, blankets, and hot drinks are seeing more customers. Many shopping centers and local markets have changed their hours and now open later than usual.

Schools and the Community Respond

Schools in Hyderabad and the surrounding areas have changed the times of their morning assemblies and moved outdoor activities inside to keep students warm. Groups in the community are also giving blankets and warm clothes to families who don’t have enough. These actions show how people in the area are working together to deal with the strange weather.

Health Advisory from Medical Experts

Doctors in the city have warned residents to take respiratory illnesses seriously as the cold wave could worsen conditions such as asthma, bronchitis, and flu. Medical experts have also urged people to keep themselves hydrated despite the cold, since dry air often causes dehydration. Special instructions have been issued for parents to ensure children are adequately layered with warm clothing before leaving for school.

Travel and tourism

The cold wave that is still going on has had a direct effect on travel and tourism in Telangana. There were small delays for trains and flights in the early morning because of thick fog, and people driving on highways had trouble seeing. In the mornings, tourist spots in Hyderabad like Charminar, Golconda Fort, and Hussain Sagar had fewer visitors. The numbers only went up later in the day.

Conclusion

Severe cold wave has gripped Hyderabad and Telangana, wherein low temperatures are quite uncommon. IMD said conditions might persist for the next 2-3 days, and people need to stay alert and take all precautions during this period.
