Delhi CM Oath Taking: Rekha Gupta Becomes Chief Minister, 6 Ministers Join Cabinet
New Delhi, February 20: Rekha Gupta, a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and first-time MLA from Shalimar Bagh, took oath as the Chief Minister of Delhi on Thursday. She became the fourth woman to hold this position. The grand ceremony took place at Ramlila Ground, with Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena administering the oath.

Six Ministers Take Oath
Along with Rekha Gupta, six BJP leaders took oath as ministers in her cabinet. The new ministers are:
- Parvesh Sahib Singh (New Delhi MLA)
- Ashish Sood (Janakpuri MLA)
- Kapil Mishra (Karawal Nagar MLA)
- Manjinder Singh Sirsa (Rajouri Garden MLA)
- Ravinder Indraj Singh (Bawana MLA)
- Pankaj Kumar Singh (Vikaspuri MLA)
A Historic Moment for Delhi
Rekha Gupta’s appointment marks a new chapter in Delhi politics. Gupta becomes the fourth woman to hold Delhi’s top post, following Sushma Swaraj (BJP), Sheila Dikshit (INC), and Atishi (AAP). Presently, she is the second serving woman Chief Minister in India. Mamata Banerjee is the only other female Chief Minister in India.
BJP’s Victory in Delhi Elections
In the recent assembly elections, BJP secured 48 out of 70 seats, while AAP won 22. The victory ended AAP’s long rule in Delhi. Gupta, who is known for her grassroots connect, was instrumental in BJP’s victory.

PM Modi Congratulates Rekha Gupta
Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised Rekha Gupta’s journey from student politics to Chief Minister. He posted on X, “She has risen from the grassroots. I am confident she will work for Delhi’s development with full energy. My best wishes for her tenure.”
AAP Leaders Absent from Ceremony
AAP leader Swati Maliwal was present at the event, but senior AAP leaders, including Arvind Kejriwal and Atishi, were absent. However, they congratulated Rekha Gupta through social media.
Know the New Ministers
Parvesh Sahib Singh, New Delhi MLA
Parvesh Sahib Singh, son of former Delhi Chief Minister Sahib Singh Verma, claimed victory over Arvind Kejriwal in what many considered to be one of the toughest contests to defeat him.Singh has served as an MP two times and MLA once. His priorities are set on the development of Yamuna riverfront, housing, and employment opportunities. Singh has established himself firmly in Delhi politics over the last decade and possesses strong popularity in his constituency. He has pledged to improve infrastructure, education, and healthcare to the citizens of New Delhi. His vision for New Delhi is to elevate it to a model constituency with world class facilities and proper civic services.
Ashish Sood (Janakpuri MLA)
Ashish Sood is a dedicated BJP leader with experience in Delhi’s municipal administration. He has close ties with BJP’s top leadership and enjoys RSS support. He has been a party worker since childhood and has been in various important positions in BJP over the years. He was one of the major contributors to the organizational structure of BJP, Delhi and has helped to develop a lot of support for the party. Some of his objectives for Janakpuri are to improve transportation facilities, manage wastes better, and provide adequate water supply to residents.
Kapil Mishra (Karawal Nagar MLA)
Kapil Mishra previously served as a minister in the AAP government. He joined BJP after accusing Arvind Kejriwal of corruption. He is known for his activism and strong political speeches. A prominent figure in Delhi politics, he is the son of former East Delhi BJP mayor Annapurna Mishra. His activism spans various causes, including campaigns against farmer suicides, Yamuna encroachment, and the Commonwealth Games scandal. He has authored a publication titled “It’s Common VS Wealth.” Mishra has been vocal about various issues, including environmental concerns and governance transparency. His tenure in politics has been marked by bold decisions and strong stances against corruption. In Karawal Nagar, he aims to introduce better civic amenities, boost economic development, and enhance security measures to curb rising crime rates.
Manjinder Singh Sirsa (Rajouri Garden MLA)
Sirsa is a Sikh leader with strong political and religious influence. He has served as the president of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee. His leadership in the Sikh community has earned him a significant following, and he has been actively involved in advocating for the rights of Sikh citizens. He plans to focus on improving education, strengthening healthcare facilities, and ensuring better law enforcement in Rajouri Garden. Sirsa also aims to work on religious and cultural preservation efforts in his constituency.
Ravinder Indraj Singh (Bawana MLA)
Ravinder Singh defeated AAP’s Jai Bhagwan by over 31,000 votes. His strong grassroots connections helped him secure a significant victory. Coming from a family with a political background, Singh has been actively involved in community service and welfare programs. His key focus areas include rural development, skill training programs for youth, and improving basic infrastructure in Bawana. He has promised to work on water and electricity issues and has pledged to make Bawana a self-sustainable and economically progressive region.
Pankaj Kumar Singh (Vikaspuri MLA)
Pankaj Singh won against AAP’s Mahinder Yadav. His victory strengthened BJP’s hold in South West Delhi. Singh has been involved in social work for many years and is known for his efforts in community development. He has pledged to focus on road infrastructure, sanitation projects, and better public healthcare in Vikaspuri. Additionally, he aims to work on youth empowerment initiatives and promote local businesses through government support programs.
What’s Next for Delhi?
With a new BJP-led government in place, major policy changes and infrastructure projects are expected. The new cabinet is set to focus on development, employment, and a clean Delhi.
