Delhi Election Results 2025: BJP Secure a Landmark Victory After 27 Years, Dethrones AAP
New Delhi: February 8, 2025: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is witnessing an unprecedented victory in the Delhi Assembly Elections 2025, bringing the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) decade-long rule to a close. According to the update data from the ECI, the BJP secured 48 out of the 70 seats, while the AAP won 22. The Congress, once a dominant force in Dehli politics, seems to be heading to yet another blank.
This marks a significant political change for Delhi as the BJP has returned after 27 years, which, affirms many, is being viewed as a step toward massive change.
Modi and Shah’s Comments on the Victory of the BJP.
The Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, has thanked Delhi voters. He recently posted on social media saying, “Development and good governance have a clear winner: Jana Shakti! I bow to my dear sisters and brothers of Delhi for this resounding and historic mandate to the BJP. We are humbled and honored to receive these blessings.”
Home Minister Amit Shah, the BJP’s lead election strategist, suggested that the victory signals “the end of the rule of lies” and is a step forward towards abolishing “arrogance” and “anarchy.”
“The people of Delhi have given an open mandate that has neglected the false sycophancy and corrupt rule of AAP. This is the dawn of a new diseased governance era in the national capital,” he said.
Jana Shakti is paramount!

Arvind Kejriwal and Delhi CM Atishi Respond to the Defeat
The AAP suffered a major setback, with former Delhi Chief Minister and AAP Convenor Arvind Kejriwal losing his seat in New Delhi. Parvesh Verma, the BJP candidate, defeated him.
In a video message, Kejriwal congratulated the BJP and accepted that he lost: “I acknowledge the outcome and commend the BJP on the win. AAP will keep working for the people of Delhi as a robust opposition.” Chief Minister Atishi also accepted the loss of the party and vowed to continue their struggle for the people of Delhi.

Why Did AAP Lose? Key Reasons Behind The Defeat
AAP’s defeat in the elections for the Delhi assembly can be understood through a constellation of basic thesis that cumulatively reduced public election support. One of the highlights was the Delhi Liquor Policy Scam, which put a big question mark on AAP’s supposed transparency and integrity.
The “Sheesh Mahal” controversy, certainly involving blosom spending on the official residence of Arvind Kejriwal, the chief minister, considerably lowered his standing as a popular leader. Furthermore, unfulfilled promises, including cleaning the Yamuna River, better roads in Delhi, and even good drinking water, resulted in greater public anger among the voters. There is a strong belief within the common mass that while AAP was wasting time and resources on free policies like free electricity, free water, and free bus services, the long-standing developmental needs and infrastructure of the city were not met.
Another primary contributor to the Aam Aadmi Party’s fall was Kejriwal’s negative campaigning, especially when he used the so-called poison remark when attacking the BJP by claiming that the Haryana government is poisoning the Yamuna River. The statement proved to be more detrimental than helpful to his reputation because a large section of the people had considered it an irresponsible approach.
Not making any alliances with Congress also harmed AAP, causing division in the anti-BJP votes, which favored the saffron party. At the same time, the BJP’s dominance in Delhi’s Lok Sabha elections in 2014, 2019, and 2024 marked the party’s increasing penetration in Delhi. As a result of all those reasons together, there emerged a powerful tide in the support of the BJP to the disadvantage of the Aam Aadi Party, which even resulted in the party’s most successful performance in elections in its entire history.
