IND vs ENG 5th T20I: India demolished England by 150 Runs in 5th T20I to Clinch Series 4-1

Mumbai | February 2, 2025: India delivered a crushing 150-run victory over England in the 5th T20I at Wankhede Stadium, securing a 4-1 series win. The match saw Abhishek Sharma’s record-breaking 135 off 54 balls, which powered India to 247/9; England collapsed for 97 in 10.3 overs.

Abhishek Sharma’s Record-Breaking Knock

The young opener Abhishek Sharma played a once-in-a-lifetime innings, rewriting Indian T20I records with his incredible stroke play. His blazing knock of 135 runs off 54 balls became the highest individual T20I score by an Indian batter, surpassing Shubman Gill’s 126* against New Zealand in 2020.

Abhishek’s innings were filled with jaw-dropping strokes, smashing 13 sixes and 7 fours. His innings set multiple new records:

  • Most sixes (13) by an Indian in a T20I inning.
  • Second-fastest century (37 balls) by an Indian in T20Is, just behind Rohit Sharma’s 35-ball century against Sri Lanka in 2017.
  • Second-fastest fifty (17 balls) by an Indian, after Yuvraj Singh’s 12-ball fifty against England in 2007.
  • Highest T20I powerplay score by India (95/1 in 6 overs), breaking their previous best (82/2 vs. Scotland, 2021).

Abhishek Sharma was finally dismissed in the 16th over, caught by Jofra Archer off Adil Rashid after attempting his 14th six. His innings will be remembered as one of the most destructive performances in T20I history.

India’s Explosive Batting Performance

Apart from Abhishek Sharma’s blitzkrieg, Tilak Varma (24 off 15) and Shivam Dube (30 off 13) also played impactful cameos. India raced to 247/9 in 20 overs, setting an almost impossible target for England.

Top England Bowlers

  • Brydon Carse, 3/38
  • Mark Wood, 2/32
  • Adil Rashid, 1/41

This aggressive approach posed a lot of problems to England’s bowlers. The powerful batting order nearly guaranteed India finished this inning with an advantage and began to put a lot of pressures on England

England’s Batting Collapse: All Out for 97

Chasing such a large target was always going to be difficult, and it was made even harder when Phil Salt was taken out after 55 runs off 23 balls. After he got dismissed by Shivam Dube, all hopes were lost; the English batting order completely fell apart. Except Salt and Jacob Bethell (10 runs), none of the other England batters were able to hit double figures

India’s Bowling Heroes

  • Mohammed Shami: 3/25 (Sensational in his comeback series)
  • Varun Chakravarthy, 2/25
  • Shivam Dube, 2/11
  • Abhishek Sharma, 2/3 (Showed all-round brilliance)

The English batsmen were completely at the mercy of Indian bowlers, who bundled them out in a mere 10.3 overs. In T20I history, this was India’s second greatest victory by runs., behind the 168-run win against New Zealand in 2023.
