India Makes History by Defeating South Africa to Retain ICC Women’s U19 T20 World Cup 2025 title
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, February 2, 2025. The Indian Women U19 National Cricket Team defeated South Africa by 9 wickets in the finals of the 2025 ICC U19 T20 World Cup. This match continued India’s undefeated streak in the tournament and guided them to lift their second consecutive U19 Women’s World Cup Cricket title.

India needed only 83 runs to win, and they chased the target easily in 11.2 overs. Gongadi Trisha led the charge with an unbeaten 44 off 33 balls, while Sanika Chalke supported her with 26 off 22 balls.
India lost only one wicket as their batters played with confidence. The South African bowlers failed to stop India’s chase.
Earlier, South Africa won the toss and opted to bat first. India’s bowlers destroyed South Africa’s batting lineup, bundling them out for just 82 runs in 20 overs. Gongadi Trisha set the tone for the match by going for just 15 runs in which she took 3 wickets. Other bowlers also did very well. Vaishnavi Sharma, Aayushi Shukla, and Parunika Sisodia each claimed two wickets for 23, 9, and 6 runs, respectively.
South Africa’s Problems With Bat and Ball
South Africa had a tough day. South Africa’s batters did not look comfortable against the Indian bowlers, and only four of them were able to get into double figures. From them, the highest scorer Mieke managed to score only 23 runs. Jemma Botha, Karabo Meso, and Fay Cowling made 16, 10, and 15 runs, respectively.
They too had a struggle during the batting of India. Only Kayla Reyneke was able to take a wicket of Indian wicketkeeper-batter Kamalini, but with that low total of 82 runs, it was never going to be enough.

- Group Stage: Wins against New Zealand, Samoa, and Nigeria.
- Super Six: Beat Ireland also shared points with the USA during a rain-abandoned match.
- Semifinal: Qualified for the finals after winning against Australia by five wickets.
Gongadi Trisha: Player of the Match & Series
Gongadi Trisha was impressive and won ‘Player of the Match’ for scoring 44 runs of 33 balls and taking three wickets in the match. She was also awarded the ‘Player of the Series’ due to her consistency throughout the tournament.
Trisha finished as the top run scorer of the tournament with 309 runs and picked up 7 wickets also from seven matches in this tournament. She became the first batter to hit a century at an ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup during the match against Scotland.
India’s Historic Victory
In the year 2023, India won the first edition of the U19 women’s T20 world cup by beating England in the final at Potchefstroom in South Africa. With this victory, the team has rightfully crowned themselves the champions of the world and claimed the best U19 women’s team title.
