India VS Australia 2nd Test, Day 1: India All out for 180

India VS Australia 2nd Test, Day 1: India’s batting collapse hands the advantage to Australia in Adelaide Test

India’s batting problem continued to the first day of the second Test against Australia at Adelaide Oval, wherein the side was bowled out for a paltry 180 runs. Australia capitalised on the weaknesses of Indians and at the end of the day were 86/1, still trailing by 94 runs with nine wickets in hand.

India was not so lucky after winning the toss and chosen to bat. The opening batsman of the match Yashasvi Jaiswal was trapped lbw by Mitchell Starc at the first ball of the match. Openers KL Rahul (37) and Shubman Gill (31) made all things fall in order with a 69-run partnership, however, wickets continued tumbling like pack of cards.

The middle order did little to resist, with Rishabh Pant scoring 21 before Marnus Labuschagne caught him off Pat Cummins. A promising player, Nitish Kumar Reddy, made the most of his outing at 42 but failed to find support from the tailenders. Ravichandran Ashwin scored a brisk 22 before being lbw to Starc.

Mitchell Starc was the pick of the bowlers for Australia, taking 6 wickets for 48 runs and showing the pink ball to be quite effective. Scott Boland and Pat Cummins also took 2 wickets each.

In response, Australia confidently started their innings. While Jasprit Bumrah dismissed Usman Khawaja for 13, Nathan McSweeney (38*) and Marnus Labuschagne (20*) steadied the ship to take the Aussies to 86/1 at stumps.

Summary Day 1
India: 180 all out in 44.1 overs
Australia: 86/1 in 33 overs

India will be on the backfoot due to being unable to post a substantial first innings total. The team would have had to be disciplined in their bowling on Day 2 to prevent Australia from building a commanding lead.
