Boxing Day Thrill: Australia Concludes Day 1 at 311/6

Australia on the first day of the 4th test at Melbourne Cricket Ground of the India Tour of Australia achieved a total of 311 runs and lost 6 wickets. Marnus Labuschagne ( 72), Steve Smith (68), Usman Khawaja (57) and Sam Konstas hit half centuries helping Australia achieve a good standing position in the game.

Bumrah also stood out for India with a stunning pace bowling and ably taking three wickets which delayed Australia’s speed.

The 19 year old cricket star Sam Konstas, made a remarkable arrival on the international stage with 60 off just 65 balls. Opening alongside Usman Khawaja, Konstas never looked nervous . He added 89 runs for the first wicket with Khawaja within 19.2 overs which eventually aided in establishing a solid ground for the Australian innings.

Konstas scored 18 runs, including two boundaries and a six in the 11th over of Australia’s innings, making it the most expensive over of Jasprit Bumrah’s Test career. Jasprit Bumrah concedes his first Test six also in 3 years and 4,562 balls when Konstas hits a reverse-scoop six in the seventh over. Cameron Green was the previous batter to hit a six off Bumrah during the 2021 Sydney Test.

Jasprit Bumrah certainly Led India’s Comeback

Jasprit Bumrah managed to single handedly turn the tides of the game . Despite India facing a struggling start, he took the wickets of Travis Head (0), Usman Khawaja (57) and Mitchell Marsh (04) consecutively while still  managing to maintain a steady line and length with sharp shots and variations giving explanation as to why he’s ranked as one of the premier bowlers of the world.

Labuschagne and Smith Perform Heroics to set the Middle order Gears in Motion

The active contributions made by middle order Marnus Labuschagne (72 in 145 balls ) and Steve Smith (68 runs in 111 balls ) played a key role in Australia wrapping the game up on a high note.

Indian Bowling Performance And the Comeback of Sundar

Indian all-rounder Washington Sundar replaced Shubman Gill, and it was a significant change in India’s playing XI. He came in the picture once again as he picked up the wicket of Labuschagne during an important stage in the game ensuring India was more secure in this game.

The notable contributions that Akash Deep (1/59) and Ravindra Jadeja (1/54) also made with vital wickets. As India looks to limit the target, Day 2 requires the quick finishing off of Australian innings.
