ICC Champions Trophy 2025 Semi-Final: India Defeated Australia by 4 Wickets

Dubai, March 4, 2025: India pulled off a sensational 4-wicket victory against Australia during the semi-final match of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. With this win, India has advanced to the final of the tournament for a record third successive time. The Men in Blue chased down the 265-run target in 48.1 overs, thanks to a masterclass by Virat Kohli (84 runs) and a match-winning partnership between Virat and Shreyas Iyer (45 runs).

Australia Restricted By Shami-Led Bowling Attack To 264 Runs

Rohit Sharma was not lucky at the toss for the 11th time in a row in ODIs. Mohammed Shami was the pick of the bowlers for India having gotten 3 wickets for just 48 runs. His brilliant performance helped the Indian side. His support came in the form of Varun Chakravarthy and Ravindra Jadeja who responded with two wickets each .

Australia’s batting met some resistance in the form of Steven Smith (73 runs off 96 balls) and Alex Carey (61 runs off 64 balls). Nevertheless, Carey’s run out due to Iyer’s direct throw limited Australia’s acceleration in the final overs. The Australian team was all out for 264 runs in 49.3 overs.

India’s Chase Fueled by Iyer and Kohli’s Steady 91-Run Partnership

India’s chase began on the backfoot as Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill fell to the Australian bowlers early on. But it was Kohli, who took the anchor role and displayed his trademark calmness and skill, scoring 84 runs off 98 balls, getting India through a difficult patch. He was well supported by Shreyas Iyer, who scored 45 runs. Together with Iyer, Kohli went on to build a solid platform adding important runs.

India lost some wickets in quick succession from their middle order, but not before Pandya played a quick-fire cameo of 28 runs. Alongside him, KL Rahul scored 42 of 37 balls, bringing India home for the victory. With both these players at the crease, the match looked in India’s control and Rahul hit a six to clinch the match with 48.1 overs.

India Marches to the Champions Trophy 2025 Final

With this victory, India has ousted the defending ODI World Champions, Australia, from the tournament. India has gone unbeaten in the tournament, and now awaits the winner of the South Africa vs New Zealand semi-final, which will be played on March 5, 2025. Final will be played on March 09, 2025.
