On World Meditation Day, it will be a fitting tribute to the great sage Maharishi Patanjali whose works in Sanskrit laid down the foundational base for the practice of yoga and meditation. Although his timeline is not clearly defined and has been one of the subjects of controversy between scholars, Patanjali is said to have lived between 200 BCE and 200 CE.He belonged to a time when Indian philosophy and spirituality were highly in development, so he was an important figure in ancient Indian wisdom.

Apart from the very popular book, Yoga Sutras, Patanjali has done some other things for the world of meditation and yoga as well. He focuses much attention on the eightfold path, which is known as Ashtanga Yoga. This approach integrates meditation into its framework, making Dhyana an important element. The integration of these different factors will bring balance between the mind, body, and spirit.

Actually, popularization of Transcendental Meditation in the world has been the biggest achievement made by one single pioneering figure, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, getting millions to adapt to a mindful and life of an inwardly peaceful existence.
