PM Modi’s US Visit 2025: PM Modi met US President Trump at the White House and discussed Trade, Defense, and Global Issues
Washington, D.C., Feb. 14, 2025 Prime Minister Narendra Modi concluded his two-day stay in America with an important meeting with President Donald Trump at the White House today. Both leaders talked about strategic relationships, trade, immigration, global conflicts, and defense.
A Joint Briefing of Modi and Trump: 1+1 = 11 and not 2
Four hours into the discussion, PM Modi and President Trump gave a joint briefing on the US economy, tariffs, illegal immigration, the war between Russia and Ukraine, the issue of Bangladesh & China, and the extradition of Tahawwur Rana, who was charged with a 26/11 terror attack in Mumbai in the year 2008. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said India and the US together make 1+1 = 11 and not 2.

Trade of $500 Billion by 2030
Modi and Trump agreed to aim for a $500 billion bilateral trade by 2030, thus announcing their intention to double the business. Modi said that the economic growth of India is astonishing, and Trump reassured that he will remain true to his policies of fair and reciprocal trade.
The Deportation Row
Modi sought to assuage worries connected with illegal immigration, saying that India is open to receiving its citizens back who are illegally residing in the United States. He was concerned about how people are deceived by traffickers and emphasized that the roots of human trafficking have to be dealt with.
Tahawwur Rana and the Mumbai Terror Attacks
President Trump has confirmed the extradition of Tahawaur Rana, who is accused of being one of the conspirators of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, to India. PM Modi expressed gratitude to President Trump, saying it was a remarkable move towards delivering justice to the sufferers of the 2008 attacks.
India’s Defense F-35 Deal
Trump made a speech announcing a new defense deal for India, which included the acquisition of an F-35 stealth fighter jet. By this deal, India has also been joined to the select group of countries that includes NATO allies, Israel, and Japan, which are allowed to purchase the advanced stealth fighters.
MAGA & MIGA
PM Modi introduced the slogan “Make India Great Again” (MIGA), reflecting on Trump’s “Make America Great Again” (MAGA) slogan. He called this the “MEGA partnership for prosperity.”

Indo-Chinese Conflict & Bangladesh
On the matter of the India-China border conflict, Trump was clear in expressing concern over the clashes. He promised US input in settling the dispute while stressing the need for peace and order in the area.

Russia and Ukraine Conflict
PM Modi endorsed Trump’s intentions to mend the divide between Russia and Ukraine. He restated India’s position, which endorses peace. He said, “I have always been in close contact with Russia and Ukraine. I have met the leaders of both countries.
Civil Nuclear Agreement
Both leaders vowed to ensure that the US-India 123 Civil Nuclear Agreement is completely and fully observed. They opted to cooperate towards constructing India’s nuclear power plants with the inclusion of the appropriate technologies and local participation.
Space Cooperation
India and the US embarked on a new epoch of collaboration in space research and development. NASA and ISRO will launch an Indian astronaut aboard the International Space Station (ISS) under the AXIOM program in 2025. The two leaders congratulated each other for the anticipated commencement of the NISAR mission as well.
Modi-Trump Meeting: Praise for the PM’s Negotiation Skills
During the presser, Trump expressed admiration for Modi’s negotiating abilities and said he is a tougher and better negotiator than he has expected. Trump noted the high tariffs from India while also acknowledging India’s willingness to buy oil and gas from the US.
