Plane Crash of Jeju Air Flight in S. Korea, 179 Feared dead

29 December 2024: A shocking news shook the world as a Jeju Air passenger flight returning from Thailand suffered a devastating crash at Muan airport In South Korea. The flight was carrying 181 people including the crew members. Authorities have confirmed that all except two individuals onboard  are  presumed dead.

The Jeju Air flight departed from Bangkok with 175 passengers and 6 crew members. There were also two Thai people on the flight. The aircraft was approaching Muan airport  when it encountered difficulty. Within seconds, the plane skidded off the runway and went into flames.

Emergency response team rushed to the site, started efforts in extinguishing the fire while also trying to find survivors. According to the South Korean News agency and channels , only two survivors have been reported so far . The Emergency workers are now trying to recover the remaining bodies and establish the total number of people who lost their lives during the incident. As this is happening, the families of the passengers await communication with a lot of distress

With help from foreign experts, South Korea’s aviation authority was said to begin an inquiry surrounding the unfortunate accident. Some of the vital points include

  • Failed Landing Gear: First signs indicated a malfunction in the landing gear of the plane and suggested that it did not deploy adequately.
  • Pilot Action: Investigators are trying to know the activities during the landing attempt.
  • Log Book of the Aircraft: The aircraft’s condition along with the service history of the aircraft and its engineers will receive a close inspection.
  • Black Box Recovery: Efforts are underway to recover the black box and vocal device so that the causation of events that led to the tragic situations can be determined.

Flight 7C2216 was a daily flight offered by Jeju Airlines, the largest low-cost carrier in Korea. The aircraft was coming back from Bangkok, Thailand, which is a frequently visited country by people from South Korea.

Jeju Air has a reputation for economical and dependable flights and services; therefore, it is a shocker and indeed devastating. It was reported that the aircraft was an older model, which leaves concerns over its airworthiness and maintenance thereon.

Even though South Korea has one of the best aviation safety standards on a global level, however, there have been some serious plane crashes in its history.

  • Asian Airlines Flight 214 (2013): Three people died and more than 180 were injured when a Boeing 777 crashed at the San Francisco International Airport. The investigation cited pilot mismanagement during landing.
