Tesla’s India Entry After Long Wait

Tesla has wanted to enter India for years but faced challenges due to high import taxes. Though, government recent policies have relaxed the customs duties on luxury EVs above $40,000 in value from 110% to 70%. This has enabled Tesla to take a keener look at the Indian market.

India’s Growing EV Market

India’s EV sector is still small compared to China.Last year, China sold 11 million electric cars, and India, approximately 100,000. Although the gap is broad, Tesla is optimistic about the booming potential as India begins to move toward cleaner energy and the use of EVs.

What’s Next for Tesla in India?

Tesla has not officially announced when it will start selling cars in India. Some experts speculate that the company will likely begin by importing vehicles and progressively start local manufacturing dependent on demand and government support.

This move comes in the backdrop of wider trade discussions between India and the US. After the Modi – Musk meeting, US President Donald Trump commented that work is being done by both nations to address trade deficits and increase national defense agreements

Tesla’s expansion in India reflects how business and politics are closely linked. With Musk’s global ventures growing, Tesla’s India entry could be a game-changer for the country’s EV market.
