Every year, World Meditation Day falls on December 21st. The day reminds the people on Earth how they, as human beings, have been transformed by meditation. It is peace and well-being glorifying mindfulness constructed at the individual, societal as well as planetary levels.

The Indian meditation gurus also include some of the most recognizable names, such as Sadhguru and Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, who are influencing millions around the world. Historically, Maharishi Patanjali, who is considered the “Father of Meditation” in India, established the foundation of meditation through his Yoga Sutras, which remain the backbone of mindfulness and yoga practices all over the world.

Today, on World Meditation Day, the Prime Minister of India – a great meditation proponent and enthusiast – tweeted, “Today, on World Meditation Day, I would like to urge everyone to include meditation in their day-to-day lives and learn to harness its transformation potential. Meditation is the tool to bring peace and harmony into one’s life as well as our society and planet.”. With the technological age, apps and guided videos will be very helpful tools in helping us get into our own routines of meditation.

The benefits of meditation are countless. It enhances focus, reduces stress levels, promotes creativity, and heals the body by lowering blood pressure and improving immunity. For the youth, it offers a way to maneuver the pressures of the world, which eventually helps in emotional stability as well as better decision making.

It could unite the people of all cultures across the globe and create a harmonious society. The collective mindfulness practice can affect most global issues, including wars, inequality, and climate change. It may create an empathetic society that can work in harmony.

As the world continues to celebrate World Meditation Day, let us embrace the old practice of India to unlock the best in us and contribute to the most peaceful and balanced world ever.
